The tools used by locksmith for automotive purposes

Few would doubt the usefulness of the locksmiths. True, that they are not required very often, but whenever they are required the situations are of importance. They open up the locks to enable access to your belongings, be it the entry into the home or in some automotive or even the opening of some vault for access to the assets. They would make the duplicate keys, rekey your locks, open the locks, repair the damaged keys and even provide the installation services of the locking systems in your premises.
The profession of locksmiths is, nowadays, more related to the opening of the locks or its repairs, and is associated very less with the art of making the same. The locksmith of the past was more adept at making of the locks and locking systems. He was not required to share this art with anyone in public and was required to maintain confidentiality about the same. The requirement for the same is there for the present day locksmiths as well. That is why they are required to operate under a license only. Failure to do so could invite heavy penalties. For some special services like lock picking, only the licensees are required to carry the tools of the same.

The locksmith services can be clubbed into four major categories: residential, commercial, automotive and industrial. These areas cover all the major operations which can be expected of him. The tools used by them are many. Some are designed for specific purposes. A person specialising in any of the above said areas does keep a posse of the locks required for that service. The tools for the automotive purposes kept by the locksmith are:
Auto Jigglers: These are the automotive try out keys which simulate the shape of the manufactured keys. There are a number of these keys which can be used to open the locked vehicles irrespective of the models of the cars.
Bump keys and the hammers: These are some of the oldest tools which are used to open up the locked doors. These are vital for the process of rapping. The bump keys are cut to the maximum depth. These can be used with the dimple locks and pin tumblers. When used for the automobiles, these are the keys which can be used for the purpose of the opening the steering locks and the gear shift locks. The use of the hammers is to drive the key into the lock. This is a work of skills and patience.
Pump wedge: This device is used to create space between the weather stripping on the front of the door and the door itself. The device is inserted in between these two and then it is inflated which gives the required space for working.
Slim Jims: These are long and thin pieces which are inserted in the space between the car window and the door to try unlocking the internal locking system.
The locksmiths make use of these and many other tools for opening the automotives from advanced bicycles to the cars and recreational vehicles.
